I came across this interesting post (via bondage blog) on the difference between BDSM and misogyny/misandry. It’s a controversial discussion area in some political circles (although probably not among readers of this blog) and I like the way the writer addressed it.
I just like being beaten by the person who loves me because it’s sexy, because power games are hot, and it’s not about sex, gender, race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or ANY of that shit, some of us just like being submissive in the bedroom and some of us just like being dominant. End of goddamn story.
It’s written by The Peacock Angel who describes herself as a “kinky atheist feminist submissive dyke… and a professional dominatrix.”
For those of us who had to deal with the political zeitgeist and beliefs of a particular brand of feminism (Andrea Dworkin et al) in our late teens and early twenties, just as we were dealing with our own perverse sexuality without the widespread availability of information on the net, simple clear statements like this are always refreshing.
I have to admit, I actually jerked off to Andrea Dworkin back in the 80’s. Not, I hasten to add, the person herself. But one of her books. I forget the title but it had several long extended descriptions of BDSM movie scenes, which for a horny desperate kinky teenager were better than any playboy letters page. I’m not 100% sure, but I’d hazard a guess that I wasn’t her intended readership.
On one hand I do wish the Internet had arrived 10 years earlier in my life. The information available now would have made a massive difference to my life age 15-25. But on the other hand, stepping back and looking at the bigger picture, I’m infinitely better off than anyone born earlier in human history.
Incidentally, assuming you’re the m-gameboy2 of tumblr fame, thanks for the recent shout out. And thanks for all your work on your tumblr site. It was one of the first femdom tumblr sites I ever came across, and is still one I regularly check back on.
