The problem of sand getting into inappropriate crevices is a well known issue with beaches. No matter how appropriately you dress, irritating gritty feelings in awkward spots are almost unavoidable. I therefore dread to think how this gentlemen must have felt at the end of the day. Tightly wrapped plastic tape and a gas mask are about as far from ideal beachwear as you can get. The ladies choices are not a lot better. In fact, if you had to come up with the worst possible things to wear on a hot sandy beach, it would probably look something like this. I guess for him at least, that might have been the idea.

I’ve yet to observe that particular English seaside tradition in the US. But yes, definitely a more interesting idea than a donkey ambling slowly back and forth!

Hope you are enjoying your vacation! I have been to Hawaii…Maui. What I remember best was how laid-back the culture was (or seemed to be…like most communities with tourism-based economies, there are two cultures: the veneer culture for the tourists…and the organic one underneath)…also, the beautiful sunsets and the gorgeous flowers everywhere!
Their costumes are kind of ridiculous. I actually think the shot would have worked a lot better if they were in casual beach wear and he was in the over the top fetish gear. That would have made a nice contrast, rather than leaving people worried about the physics of high heeled boots on sand.
It has been a very relaxing vacation. Lots of time to put my feet up, listen to the ocean and read. That’s not something I’ve had chance to do for a while. I’ve been meaning to tackle Shelby Foote’s civil war history for a long time, so that has been top of my virtual book pile. And yes, it seems to be a very relaxed culture compared to what I’m used to. We’re staying in a more ‘organic’ area rather than a hotel or resort, but it’s still a different pace and approach to the mainland. I’ve also enjoyed the sunsets and the amazing greenery.
