Superbowl 50 was played at the weekend. If you live in the US it’s an event that’s hard to avoid. It’s part of the culture here, like turkey on Thanksgivings and fireworks on the 4th of July. The game was poor, which isn’t unusual. The halftime show also mostly sucked, thanks to the worlds most boring band – Coldplay. Appropriately enough, in a male dominated event, the only redeeming bits of the whole experience were provided by two women. Lady Gaga did a great version of the National Anthem and Beyonce rescued the halftime show.
Normally, none of this would be relevant to a blog like this one. However, I couldn’t let Beyonce’s outfit and her backing dancers pass without comment. They looked like 70’s revolutionaries if they’d been cast for an exploitation action movie and dressed by Helmut Newton. I thought they were brilliant, both in terms of their fetishistic look and their routine. Obviously there was a political element to it, with reference to the Black Power Salute and Black Lives matter. It also pissed off some assholes, so that was another added bonus. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if they’d invaded the stage and beaten the crap out of the guys in Coldplay. That’s a Superbowl show that would have been worth the ticket price.
Very interesting. You helped me understand what that was all about.
And how about those thighs! š
WOW!!! They look fantastic, don’t they? Projecting such an invincibly strong, super sexy and ultra feminine image simultaneously, that takes a lot of backbone to pull off … no matter when, no matter where.
Gaga’s performance was bit over the top, in my humble opinion; and lets face it: … “Land of the Brave” and “Home of the Free” … Does that still apply? As a regular visitor (albeit limited to Oshkosh, Wisconsin) and a follower of the US, UK and continental European media, one gets the impression the country has become the land of the vile, the vicious, the violent and the vindictive; the home of the haters … Scares the hell out of me every time I pause and ponder; even here at the other side of the Atlantic.
Coldplay? Irredeemable; so let’s give ‘m the cold shoulder they so rightly deserve and ignore ‘m.
Beyonce and Company should have made those dicks wipe the floor for them … with each other, in stead of mops and rags; a fitting punishment for wasting everybody’s time. The women gave us a great show, as well as their support for BlackLivesMatter … a worthy cause we all should support.
I enjoyed Lady Gaga’s performance, probably because I was expecting something completely over the top. So when it was sung so well, and just a little bit over the top, it was a pleasant surprise!
It’s hard to believe but there’s still mutterings going on over here on random news sites about Beyonce’s performance. There was even supposed to be some sort of protest organized. Too many stupid people in the world sadly.
