Spanking as an orientation

This post brings you pointers to a couple of articles by the writer Jillian Keenan. Neither are specifically femdom, but I think they’re interesting and relevant to kinky people in general.

The first is an old one from 2012 on how she came to terms with and shared her spanking fetish. I’m sure anyone with a deeply buried and unfulfilled fetish will be able to relate to her predicament. I only wish everyone could resolve their issues with their partners as neatly as she seems to.

The second is a recent article in Slate on the topic of Is Kink a Sexual Orientation?. This is a well trodden path and there has been much prior writing on it. For example, I featured this by Clarisse Thorn in a previous post. While the topic might not be a new one, I think Jillian has put together one of the better articles on it.

I’ll probably throw together some more thoughts on the orientation topic tomorrow, but for now I’ll finish with a spanking image. Given that Jillian is a spankophile that seemed appropriate. However, it’s not exactly a traditional spanking shot, given the area being targeted.

The odd little moments

I’ve had many powerful and moving experiences in kinky play over the years. Some of them have been almost transcendent in their intensity. Yet it’s typically the odd and funny little moments that stick in my mind afterwards. The giggly aftermath of play or a funny one liner during the set-up.

Last week is a good case in point. I had a fabulous session with Lydia, involving much happy moaning and floaty feelings. At one point she was doing a series of piercings in my butt cheeks, which proved to be surprisingly painful. I wasn’t shy to communicate this fact via some loud groaning, to which Lydia commented it was strange the piercing hurt so much as “…over the years I’ve done terrible things to your bottom.” Despite the intensity of the moment, I couldn’t help laughing out loud to that line. And ever since then I’ve smiled to myself whenever I happen to think of it.

Sadly we didn’t snap any shots of the piercings in question. So I’ll finish the post with a shot of another lady doing terrible things to someone’s bottom. That’s a pretty good impact indentation.

Ethical erotica (cont)

After my last post I realized it would be remiss of me to discuss ethical erotica and not mention Pandora Blake. She could be a poster woman for the movement. In the past she’s written posts on fairtrade porn, feminist porn, ethical porn and the censorship of them all. She’s covered how to make it yourself, how to sell it yourself and what can happen when you do that. She even gave away material that her credit card processing company wouldn’t handle.

Her main site is called Dreams of Spanking and, as the title suggests, features much spanking. There’s a variety of gender combinations which I think makes for a pleasant change. Personally I can admire all manner of well reddened bottoms. There’s also a tumblr, which is where I found the image below.

Do It Yourself

I’m always fascinated by the pornographic imagery people create for themselves. I don’t mean the kind involving naked volunteers and cameras, although that can be fun. I mean images that people modify via tools like photoshop to make them better reflect their fantasies.

This isn’t because the end results are particularly impressive. Most of the time it’s exactly the opposite and the manipulation is quite crude. What I like is what they say about peoples fantasies. They speak to the strength of their desires and the very specific fantasies that exist. Despite the vast amount of erotic imagery out there, people still feel the need to create fairly obviously manipulated images that push their internal hot buttons. They can look past the visual glitches and still get off on them. I think they’re great examples of both the creative urge, and the breadth and depth of our sexual desires.

The image below is one of the better examples of the genre. It looked a little off to me from the moment I spotted it, but I still liked the idea and clever way it had been composed. Particularly neat is the hairbrush on the chair. If you look at the original the hairbrush is a new addition.

I’m back again in Seattle after suffering through a much delayed flight. Apparently in my absence some sort of sporting event occurred. I’m with Dan Savage on this particular issue…

I’ve actually been a 49ers fan since I was a kid, so I lost most of my interest in the proceedings after the NFC championship game a couple of weeks ago. However, it does give me a chance to feature some football themed femdom. Perhaps the Denver cheerleaders should have given this a shot? It certainly would have made for a more entertaining show, and it couldn’t have made things any worse.

Happy travels

I’m coming to the end of my San Francisco adventures. It has been a fun few days, lots of kinky fun and excellent food, but sadly all good things must come to an end.

My flight back is Sunday evening, but before then I’m going to get together with Mistress Ai-Li. I’m sure we’ll enjoy playing together, but I also realize I’m playing with fire by meeting immediately before I fly. Past experience tells me that dommes just love making life uncomfortable for submissives long after the session is over. Hearing that I’m going to be stuck sitting in meetings the day after seeing Lydia always puts a gleam in her eye and an extra swish her swing. Similarly flying anywhere offers a great opportunity to inflict some extra long lasting torment by tenderizing suitable bits of the body. I can only hope Mistress Ai-Li doesn’t leave my bottom quite as bruised as the gentleman’s below.

Tis the season

This is the time of year when Christmas themed images start appearing on blogs. It’s also normally the time of year when I start cursing my lack of suitable material. I’m a fairly ad-hoc blogger, tracking down images as and when I need them for a post. The problem is that Christmas themed femdom is rare, and hunting for it on an as needed doesn’t really work. Fortunately, having encountered this problem twice before, I’ve got a bit more organized in advance this year. I at least have 2 or 3 suitable images saved, so brace yourself for a (very) short series of festive posts.

This first one features Ida Lupino, a pioneering female director and star of such classic movies as They Drive by Night and High Sierra. According to this blog post the image was shot at a Warner Brothers holiday party in 1942.

Spanking smiles

This is a little less explicit than yesterdays image, but broad smiles are a continuing theme. Personally I always find spanking a very playful activity, so smiles are definitely a part of my spanking scenes. I’m not really sure why that is. After all, it is an activity that has a close cultural association with punishment and childhood misbehavior. Those aren’t typical things that suggests lighthearted giggles. Perhaps it’s that contrast between a childhood activity being done by full grown adults that makes me smile.

Supergirl to the rescue!

After yesterday’s post featuring some very modern femdom art, I thought it’d be a nice contrast to reach into the past for this post. This particular image is very much of its time and genre – from the artistic style, through the exposition style of speech (clearly it’s important they’re told she’s got super powers) to the cliched green aliens. What particularly made me smile was the look on the aliens’ faces. They don’t look all that upset about the situation. In fact they almost appear to be queuing up. Perhaps their nefarious plot to take over the earth was simply a ploy to get a good spanking from a cute girl in red boots?

Spanking confessions

There’s a recently published article on Salon about a spanking aficionado coming to terms with and confessing his kink. It’s written from the point of view of a male top and, apart from the inappropriate stock photograph at the top, it’s a good insight into the kind of self-analysis and relationship risks a lot of kinky people have to enter into.

Male submissives often complain, with some justification, about the cultural unacceptability of their kinks. This article is a good reminder that dominants of both genders have their own set of problems to face. Particularly those that enjoy potentially painful activities. Telling someone you like to be hurt in certain specific ways risks them thinking you’re weird. Telling someone you like to hurt people risks them thinking you’re both weird and dangerous, no matter how much you emphasize the consensual nature of the act. Just a quick glance at the article comments will confirm the reactions that this confession can provoke from non-kinky people.
